Geekanerd Spotter: Inappropriate Sleeping Beauty Ad

Yeeah. That doesn't look wholesome to me. Maybe I'm still all perv'ed out from the Anime Fest this weekend, but seriously. That blood red background juxtaposed with the tag line "SEE MORE THAN EVER BEFORE" and the the very unwisely cropped picture..could this be intentionally dodgy? It could be a specifically New York market ad, maybe they decided to go for the somnophiliac market as long as they were posting stuff in the childless land of East Midtown Manhattan.

That is a little weird. Disney's got an edge....

It's so obviously dodgy that it's hard to actually think that an add like this passed over several people's desks without a single person saying... "ummm?" On some level, there has to be darker intentions behind this... and i'm not one of those Disney's-a-buncha-secret-pervs conspiracy types either... but come on!

Darker Intentions? Sounds like a trashy crime novel.

PS, a little context for that tagline...this new DVD release is like the first time the movie has been released in WIDESCREEN in a long time. So that's what they're getting at. But still. It's not like the poster does anything to indicate that.

And since no one else said it:

WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?

I wonder why they went with red? It makes it look kind of sinister, especially with the shadowy Prince Phillip leaning over her like that.

But then I've read earlier versions of the Sleeping Beauty story where the prince does it with Sleeping Beauty and she doesn't wake up until after she gives birth to twins.

When I think about that version of the story, it's kind of fitting, but still disturbing.
