Rorschach's Journal Update: Regina Reveals...

...Nothing. When asked about the nature of Rorschach's Journal, Michael Regina (Editor-in-Chief of theonering.net, which is behind R's J) wouldn't confirm if it was an official viral marketing site or just some fan fun, instead giving us the cryptic: "Not sure, [Rorschach] just arrived one day asking for help setting up a website." That's a pretty funny image. Correspondence is continuing, we'll keep you posted if anything develops.

Also, the new Morse Code message on the site reads: "SAW GREBERID AND YZJEPCSKU 40.754950073.988058 AN AFFAIR PERHAPS" I don't have my copy of Watchmen in front of me, but does anyone know what the heck those numbers mean?

UPDATE from AHR: Thanks to Geekanerd commenters Dan and Anonymous for pointing out these numbers are in fact co-ordinates that lead to a location on 7th Ave ad 40th street, NYC. Although I originally speculated they were pointing to Midtown Comics, Geekanerd's super-secret contact at Midtown (who also happens to be a shadowy figure behind Pop Culture Shock) said that the co-ordinates are more likely referring to the location of The Gunga Diner, a restaurant Rorschach visits in Chapter 5, page 11. On that page, Rorschach's narration reads: "On fortieth and seventh, saw Dreiberg and Juspeczyk leaving diner. They didn't know me. An affair perhaps?"

Very interesting. Just stumbled across this from another blog, after having translated the Morse myself. Those numbers clearly represent longitude and latitude. If you plug them into Google Earth (just paste 40.754950N 073.988058W into the box), you'll see a building in Manhattan just south of Times Square -- at the intersection of West 40th Street and 7th Avenue (Fashion Avenue). You can see the intersection from ground level (including pictures of some people) in Google Maps here: http://tinyurl.com/2dplnm. I'm not sure what the exact address of the building is.

The building is located on the corner of W 40th St. and 7th Ave. I typed in some random numbers on those streets and found that the address is approximately 209 W 40th St. or 564 7th Ave.

I don't know if that's important (or how accurate it is), but there ya go.

Well, looks like tomorrow might have to be a Geekanerd mission to 40th St and 7th Ave...

Good detective work, Anon and Dan.

Midtown Comics is on 7th and 40th...hmmm...

Also, this might go without saying but Greberid and Yzjepcsku are anagrams for Juspeczyk and Dreiberg. Guess Rorschach has resorted to talking in code...

Hello from ITALY,

Your work is fantastic!

Rorschach has written to us from Rorschach's Journal

http://cinemanotizie.blogspot.com/2007/07/rorschach-ci-invia-un-messaggio-per.html
http://www.cinemovie.info/Notiziario.html

The Rorschach's Journal is an official website of Warner Bros about Zack Snyder's Watchmen Movie.

Best Regards!

Ahhhhh, I should have checked this earlier -- in the Watchmen novel, on page 11 of chapter 5, Rorschach says:

"On Fortieth and Seventh, saw Dreiberg and Juspecztk leaving diner. They didn't know me. An affair, perhaps? Did Juspeczyk engineer Dr. Manhattan's exile to make room for Drieberg? Also, she hated comedian. Must investigate further."

So I guess that's that, eh? Just another reference to the book, though cleverly coded.

And thanks, ahr. I noticed the "Juspeczyk" anagram, but didn't catch "Drieberg."

He's put a new code up. This one translates to: "GET CZAR DEN SKY TO CONTACT ME"

maybe an anagram?

"Zack Snyder"

Aka the director of Watchmen.

:)

Oh. Duh. What an idiot I am.

Dan said...

Heh. I actually had to try several online anagram solvers before I found it.

Zack Snyder! ha! I just figured it out last night.

I sent him this in response:

"Ready for your close-up, Mr. Schach?

I know someone else who uses mass media to gain insight...

...awaiting your next clue..."

From me to Rorschach:
"Hello, Mr. Rorschach (not Kovacs...Rorschach)!
I´m a great fan of yours...I even use to dress up like you at Brazilian comics conventions (people usually don´t know who I am, but that´s about to change as soon as the Watchmen movie comes out). I hope you won´t break my fingers for that!
See ya.

Claudio Boguma - Brazil."

From: Rorschach to Me:
"spread the word.
