Photos: Lost Season Finale Party at the Bell House

Brooklyn's Bell House threw a massive party for the last Lost of 2009. Highlights included big screens, a Lostmobile cake, Dharma Beer, and a huge room full of alternately screaming and shushing fans.

The best part of the night for me was the performance by Previously On Lost, a NYC rock band who's songs are all based on episodes of Lost's 4th and 5th season. They have tons of MP3s on their site that I can't vouch for because I haven't listened to them yet, but I will tell you they f'in KILLED live on stage. Low-grade digital video won't fully express the explosive amounts of fan energy they emitted, but here is a short clip of the final lines from their song about SE04EP08, titled "The Island Won't Let You Die."

Lyrics:
Must venture to the temple on your own
will she make it safely to her friends, hey did you hear about the
PALM TREE MASSACRE
Palm Tree Massacre
You need to take my hand, he's toast, and on the count of three we'll coast let's go 123
DEAD

I'm not sure if that clip did them justice. They really were mind blowingly good.

Anyway, check this out!

Who doesn't like Geek Cakes?

Tons of the photos of all that other stuff I mentioned, after the jump....

Previously On Lost t-shirts.

Can you guess which episode they were singing about here?

These fools do it up with rainsticks. Need I say more?

More shots of the cake...

Here's an atmospheric one without the flash...

Let's hear it for the folks at nine cakes!

Filled to capacity.

I said Dharma Beer, and I meant it.

NERDS!

I don't think this was ever actually in Lost.

Truth in Titling

Glark (tagline: "She's got a tongue like an electric eel, and she likes the taste of a man's tonsils!") created these clever little mock ups of what the title cards of your favorite TV shows would look like if the producers were really being honest with you. These are the most geekanerdy, but there are more good ones over at her site. Thanks to Abby for tipping us to this!

Does LOST Confuse You?

Well you're not the only one.

(If you don't watch the show but one day plan to, some of what you see in the vid will qualify as SPOILERS.)

Weekanerd NYC: David Lynch, Dodgeball, Comic Bloggers, and LOST

Monday, March 10
Film critic J. Hoberman is celebrating his 30th year at the Village Voice, so BAM is showcasing a number of films he memorably reviewed, or just plain liked a lot. Hoberman will introduce this screening of Eraserhead, who called it a "piece of post-nuclear guignol" in his original 1977 review.

Comic bloggers, Lost, and gym class flashbacks after the jump...

Tuesday, March 11
Comic bloggers on parade! If you have any questions about where the comic industry is headed (or the comic blogging industry), this is the place to get your voice heard. Tickets are, as always, a mere $5.

Wednesday, March 12
Dodgeball may generally be associated with positive memories for geekanerds, but you're all grown up now and surely decades of playing first person shooters have sharpened up your hand eye co-ordination. Registration is $15, which guarantees you at least two games. Winners get two pitches and free Pizza at the Boss Tweed after party. Losers get to feel bad about themselves. The website says it's co-ed, friendly, and 22 and over.

Thursday, March 13

  • Get Lost!
  • 6:30 @ Professor Thom's, 219 2nd Avenue, Manhattan
Free jello shots whenever someone says "oceanic 6" or punches Ben. I don't even like Lost, and I know that's awesome. I passed by this place last week, they've got the show on a bunch of huge screens and the volume is cranked, if you're concerned about missing some valuable info in a public setting.

The Strike's Over, So... Where Are My Flippin' Shows!?

The strike is ovah! There's a vote on Tuesday to decide whether to end it immediately or a little later, but it's definitely at its end. And what now? What's the damage to the current season of your favorite show? Luckily, Great White Snark has put together a comprehensive list of all the shows you could potentially care about and when they'll be back. Sneak peek:
  • LOST - Six "post-strike" episodes to be made, bringing the season total to 14, two less than originally planned.
  • Smallville - 3 to 5 "post-strike" episodes to air in April/May.
  • Heroes - Fall at earliest, but who the F cares anyway?

Brian K. Vaughn On The Writer's Strike

Brian K. Vaughn has been a writer for Lost since last season, and had recently been bumped up to co-producer for the new crop of episodes. Now that the writer's strike is on, he's walked away from every Lostie's dream job. On his personal blog, he's posted an excellent FAQ about how the strike will effect not only his work, but the comic industry in general, including some thoughts on the lack of unions in the comic book biz.

Quote of Interest:
"I was also about to begin work on a particularly exciting new comic-to-screen adaptation that I can’t really talk about, and while I’m hopeful the gig will still be waiting for me if/when the strike ends, who knows? That’s one of the many risks that comes with this very necessary strike."

A new BKV comic-to-screen adaptation, eh? He already sold his Y The Last Man and Ex Machina scripts, so does that mean...the long-awaited Runaways movie? If that's the case and the script does get lost in the shuffle of the strike, comic nerds may storm Sumner Redstone's office with themselves.

Jeep Visits LOST, Races Roadrunner, Avoids Godzilla

I really miss LOST. I miss it so much that seeing it in a Jeep commercial compels me to share it with the world. This is a pretty slick Jeep commercial that has the car tumbling through 66 years of history, blowing past Godzilla, Road Runner & Wile E. Coyote, and Locke from my darling LOST. Pretty damn good effects getting the Jeep to look like it belongs in all the different source footage.

LOST: Bring Order to the Crash

If there's one thing LOST has plenty of, it's Daddy Issues. So in honor of Father's Day, check out this fan re-edit of the inciting incident of the series. The YouTuber mrlerone has taken The Losties' POV from Season One, Desmond's POV from Season Two and The Others' POV from Season Three and smushed them together into the closest approximation of synchronicity he could manage.
