Hey! Regular readers may be wondering where we've been...well, occasionally real life intrudes on one's commitment to fandom, but things are settling back down and we should be back to a regular posting schedule by next week.

Anakin Skywalker: The Fan Dub
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a fevered analysis on the shared and disperate qualties of Luke and Anakin Skywalker. The conclusion was Anakin is a horrible, horrible person but also a victim of circumstance, because his formative years were a trauma-inducing roller coaster of highs, lows, and constant dehumanization.

Q: How Can We Make Old Star Trek As Awesome As New Star Trek? A: LENS FLARES
I'm sorry, but when people stop making hilarious and insightful videos mocking the current crop of Spring Thrillrides, we will stop posting them.
So hip and edgy! And now it's guaranteed to never look dated.
Check back tomorrow for some original content, I swear.

Shoot Some Kirk Classic Into Your Bloodstream
On this, the eve of the Star Trek reboot...why not take a moment to reflect on what Star Trek Classic was all about. It wasn't about CG effects, blood pounding action, or digitally rendered lens flares. It was about the space BETWEEN moments. You know what I'm talking about.
Quite hypnotic.

Disturbing Chritmas Wishes From The Joker
Unless you have a serious aversion to LedJoker impressions and/or disturbing Santa Claus iconography, this video is a virtual lock for Geek Christmas card of the year.
This is an off-shoot from the fanvid series Batman: The Joker Blogs, which, despite a terrible title, is startlingly good and will probably get it's own post eventually once I've had time to collect myself. Seriously, even if you're not feeling the Xmas vid above (dude kind of falters at the deep 'n' scary Joker voice, I know), you'll probably still want to check out The Joker Blogs. As fan tributes go, TJB is an extremely well written, well acted, and dare I say insightful piece of work, and when he departs from Heath's line readings and starts inhabiting the character on his own, dude's Joker impression is something special.

But What Does The Joker Think of The Economic Crisis?
There seem to be a great many things happening in this place called America...sure am glad I don't live there. I mean, technically NYC seceded from the union in like, 1988, right? Right? Is it hot in here, or is it just me?
Anyway, we should all probably take a minute out of our busy schedules to watch the debate tonight. Rock Band II will still be there when it's over. In the meantime, here's a little refresher on the Big Bailout from George Bush and his Wall Street cronies, with commentary from everyone's favorite Agent of Chaos.
This is the best DK mashup I've seen since our own Albo created the legend of Patrick Batman.

The First Watchmen Trailer Is On YouTube Everywhere RIGHT THIS SECOND
Oh my! This kinda came out of nowhere, didn't it? And it's not one of those little two shots of a CG title teasers, this is a full-felged trailer with tons and tons of footage. UPDATE: If you aren't into crappy YouTube footage, Apple has a higher res version up (thanks Degan).
The trailer itself is mostly just a collection of shots that feature the main characters. It tells nothing of the story, doesn't impress really with costumes and effects...of course us nerds know that the source material is so good it can't possibly falter on the story and character front (right?), but I can't imagine those not familiar with the book will be too impressed with this. Still, as a fan of the book, it's undeniably exciting to see familiar frames come to life. For a look at the accuracy of the page to screen transition, check out our side-by-side comparison of some of these frames with the panels that inspired them.

New Weezer Video Has All Your Favorite Internet Celebrities
The idea seems so painfully obvious, I'm surprised no one beat Weezer to the punch. Get every YouTube celebrity you can wrangle and throw them into one big pot for mega-virally goodness. It would have been a bit more fresh if we hadn't just had the Southpark episode with all these guys, but SP's production turnaround is so fast I wouldn't be surprised if they got the idea from Weezer rather than the other way around. I know that may involve time travel, but I'm telling you those guys are supernatural.
As a whole the video works really well, I'd say. I was skeptical at first but by the end it was like a great big party with a bunch of old pals. Though I was quite sad not to see my main man Sammy Stephens.
[Thanks for the tip, Ethan!]
UPDATE: See something you don't recognize? Check out this excellent list of all the memes that are referenced in the video, with original YouTube links included!
